HOOP TONE HACKNEY – 2022

As part of Hello Again Hackney community projects The Majorettes offered FREE Hoop Tone classes for residents of Hackney, to encourage people to have fun and get moving after the UK lockdowns. Our Participants said:

HACKNEY FREE FAMILY CIRCUS – SUMMER 2022

As part of Hello Again Hackney, The Majorettes gave free weekly after school workshops for kids during the summer of 2022. Teaching flower sticks, juggling, skipping, circus games, spinning plates and of course HOOPS to kids in Hackney!

NEWHAM UNLOCKED – 2022

As part of the East Bank project in the Olympic Park The Majorettes were invited to perform and teach workshops for all the Newham Unlocked festivals in 2022. We were delighted to be able to offer free family workshops to the Newham residents.

WALTHAM FOREST JUMP AND QUEENS JUBILEE – 2022

The Majorettes gave free performances and hosted free family circus workshops across Waltham Forest as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and JUMP Walthamstow. “Thanks for putting on such a brilliant show! You added a huge amount to the day.” - Kaveh, Nearly There Yet

YOUNG HACKNEY – 2019

Just around the corner from The Hoopermarket!! The Majorettes led a free hula hoop workshop for Young Hackney. Where do these young hooperstars get their energy?! This skilled group even came up with their own tricks!

HACKNEY PLAY STREETS – 2019

Hackney Play Streets is an amazing initiative where residents close off their streets to through traffic for a few hours weekly or monthly, so that children can play out more safely and neighbours come together. The majorettes gave a hoop workshop to the boisterous bunch of Forest Grove, Dalston.

GROVE ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND – 2018

A free community playground in Brixton for children of all ages. After an attempt to shut the playground down, volunteers and children at The Grove worked hard to redesign and rebuild the playground. The Majorettes gave free a workshop to the super talented kids at The Grove. And it's safe to say they were as good at hooping as they are at DIY!

GILLETT SQUARE’S COMMUNITY – 2014—2018

The Hoopermarket has been part of Gillett Square's community since 2014. Regularly hosting workshops in the Square - local kids are used to being able to come and borrow a hoop and hang out during summer.

THE BRIDGE COMMUNITY EVENT – 2018

Working with the bridge, we ran a day of free workshops for the community in Croydon! People came out all day to learn our skills and share some fun.

CAMP BESTIVAL – 2017

Following past years of performing, this year we also ran workshops around the themes of The Girl Guide book written by our founder Marawa Ibrahim. Kids were encouraged to read the book, talk about the themes, make art and of course, learn some hoop tricks too!

FLOWER POWER – BATTERSEA POWER STATION TAKE OVER – 2017

This project brought together so many of The Majorettes skills; rollerskating and hula hoop performances, floral face paint, disco dance classes, jump rope workshops, djing by our own Emerald Lewis from Rinse FM and a book signing with Marawa Ibrahim and Sinem Erkas.

DANCE AID – 2017

We donated hoops and a workshop to the Dance Aid fundraiser. They help physically disabled children get active in fun supportive ways, amazing!

PRAXIS COMMUNITY PROJECTS – 2017

The people at Praxis all came together for a great outdoor workshop to sweat and have some fun together! We did our hoop workshop and they did amazing!

SOLACE WOMENS AID FUNDRAISER – 2017

We worked with SASS events to bring our HoopTone workshop for their fundraiser supporting women and children in London to build safe and strong lives! We came in with our playlist and majorettes to PLAY.

UNIVERSITY OF SURREY STUDENTS UNION CHARITY VARIETY SHOW – 2017

The ladies completely smashed the show along with a great lineup of Charleston dancers, comedians, magicians and jugglers. Donations from this event went to Guilford Action, a charity that aids homelessness in the area!

GIRL GUIDES HOOP WORKSHOP – 2017

We helped the Brownies get half of their Circus Badge by trying out hula hooping!

“The brownies and girl guides were quite keen on learning new skills, but it really empowered the Guides. They started off quite shy, but half way through the class the quietest girl in the room started to shout 'I finally got it!' and at the end of the class she said she wanted to hoop every day. BRIXTON CITY – 2017

Our second year performing with Brixton City! Had a great time teaching the locals how to jump rope and hoop - and also showing off our skills !

SOS! RIO CINEMA – 2017

Rio Cinema invited Marawa's Majorettes to teach and freestyle during their peaceful protest to save the last indepedent cinema in London. We’ll hoop to save our community any day.

WE THE FUTURE – 2016

We The Future is for young people to meet the amazing people who they will change the world with. It’s is a mix of live performances, inspiring journey telling and hands on activities, mixed in with great music and food. We performed our show and did a panel discussion about following our hoop dreams!

COPPAFEEL – 2016

We worked with Coppafeel Charity that provides information for breast cancer for both men and women! We put on a great show to help fundraise.

MS SOCIETY – 2016

This group had so much enthusiasm! We loved spending the day in London with them. We worked for an hour teaching skills and demonstrating how they help fitness while still being fun. Some were even putting together their own routines by the end of it!

KEEN – 2016

It was a blast teaching and playing games with KEEN kids! KEEN supports children with special needs, disabilities like, Asperger syndrome, autism, and down syndrome. We even had time to squeeze in a game of music hoops! Such a fun day taught by Rachel, Anouk, and Dunja.

PLAY2LEARN – 2015

This group was mega talented. This session was special as there was a fundraiser for refugees in Greece happening monotonously. It was a success and everyone had so much fun with Rachel and KiKi M!

SOUTH LONDON COMMUNITY CENTRE – 2015

We taught an extended workshop while building relationships with people in the community + there were refreshments and hang out time!

REFUGEE YOUTH – 2015

This event that celebrates relationships and cultures through skill sharing and learning! We held a Hoop workshop with everyone during their full day of activities, they picked it up so fast. Hooping is seriously for everyone.
